7 Reasons I Hate Every Protein Powder (And the Plant-Based One I Actually Use)

If you have ever gagged your way through a chalky, artificially sweetened protein shake and thought “there has to be something better than this,” same. As a nurse practitioner and plant-based fitness mama with #bodygoals,nurse practitioner who reads ingredient labels for fun, I have tried more protein powders than I care to admit. Spoiler: most of them are terrible. This post is all about finding a plant-based protein powder that does not make you miserable, and the only one that actually made the cut.

I did not arrive at protein powder snobbery overnight. I earned it. Tub by overpriced tub, I worked my way through what felt like every plant-based protein powder on the market, and I kept hitting the same wall. So here are my 7 reasons I cannot stand most protein powders, and why I finally stopped looking after I found PBFit.

1. The chalky feeling You know the one. That dry, gritty coating that sits on your teeth and the back of your throat no matter how long you blend it. It is the reason so many people give up on protein powder altogether, and honestly I do not blame them.

4. Bloating Related to the above, but worth its own number because it was that bad. I would drink a shake and feel like a balloon for the rest of the morning. Not exactly the energized, fueled feeling I was going for.

5. It clumps No matter what I did, shaker bottle, blender, whisk, prayers, there were always clumps. Chunky protein powder floating in your smoothie is not a vibe.

6. Terrible for cooking and baking The moment heat got involved, everything went sideways. The taste turned bitter, the texture got weird, and whatever I was making was ruined. A protein powder you can only use one way is not that useful for a busy mom trying to sneak nutrition into everything.

7. Expensive as hell The amount of money I have spent on protein powders I ended up hating is genuinely embarrassing. Forty to sixty dollars a tub, multiple times, hoping the next one would finally be different. If you are in the same boat, just know you are not alone and we are not doing it anymore.
